STROUDSBURG – Seniors
Amber Jadus and
Kayla Loar teamed up for a win at No. 1 doubles in their final home collegiate dual, helping East Stroudsburg University advance to the PSAC postseason tournament for the first time since 2011 with a 7-2 victory over Kutztown on Saturday.
The Warriors (4-8, 2-3 PSAC) qualified as the No. 3 seed in the East. ESU, Shippensburg and Millersville each concluded the regular season with identical 2-3 conference records, but the Warriors won the tiebreaker by virtue of having won more matches (10) than the Marauders (9) or Raiders (8) in the combined head-to-head contests between the three schools.
ESU will travel to No. 2 Bloomsburg on Tuesday afternoon, with the winner advancing to play the top-seeded team from the West in the semifinal round on Friday.
The Warriors won their third-straight dual over the Golden Bears (2-11, 0-5 PSAC) on Saturday, winning all three doubles contests and 4 of 6 singles tilts.
Jadus and Loar's win at No. 1 doubles, an 8-6 triumph over Alyssa Konas and Taylor Capoferri, was their first victory as a team this season. Junior
Elizabeth Bartoli and freshman
Marina Zardet added an 8-2 win over Yasmeen Malik and Alicia Pursell at No. 2, while junior
Devin Presby and freshman
Aubrianna Stetina blanked Ashley Carter and Shadimon Navarro 8-0 at No. 3.
ESU's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles tandems each finished with 3-2 records against PSAC East opposition this spring.
Zardet and Loar each posted 6-0, 6-0 shutouts over their respective opponents at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively. The Warriors' other two singles victories were also in straight sets, as Bartoli topped Pursell by a 6-4, 6-1 final at No. 4 and sophomore
Lauren Morrissey bested Carter 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6.
ESU will now turn its attention to the Huskies, who won 7-2 in the regular season meeting between the teams on April 5. Presby/Stetina (No. 3 doubles) and Zardet (No. 3 singles) earned the two points for the Warriors in that contest.
