BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Top 10 all-time throws from junior
Jonathan Hummel in the men's hammer, freshman
Alexis Schuldes in the women's shot put and freshman
Noah Lockwood in the men's shot put led the way for East Stroudsburg University at the Lehigh Games on Saturday, as the Warriors took part in their final tune-up prior to next weekend's PSAC championship meet at Bloomsburg.
Hummel registered a top effort of 167-3 to take sixth place in the hammer. That throw was over 10 feet above his previous season-best of 155-6 at Lafayette back in March, and it ranks him seventh in the ESU record books.
Schuldes is now ranked ninth all-time in the shot put after managing a top heave of 39-4 1/2 on Saturday. That placed her sixth overall on Saturday, and it was nearly a foot above her previous PR of 38-6 3/4 set at last weekend's All-American meet.
Freshman
Barbara Grossov also managed a new PR in the shot put, as she earned a ninth place finish with a throw of 38-9. Both Schuldes and Grossov had already qualified for next weekend's PSAC meet in the shot put.
Lockwood registered a throw of 50-0 1/2 in the men's shot put, placing fifth out of 25 throwers and moving to No. 6 all-time in school history. His previous season-best was 48-6 3/4 at Lafayette on March 25. Lockwood was less than a foot off of Paul Ferency's ESU freshman record of 50-11 3/4 set back in 1975.
Three ESU women put up new PSAC qualifying efforts at Lehigh. Junior
Hope Decker (2:22.11) was under the conference standard in the 800m, freshman
Olivia Onal (132-10) booked her spot in the hammer and freshman
Sarah Smith (5-3) qualified in the high jump.
Sophomore
Aspen Gaita traveled to Bethlehem after competing at the Penn Relays over the past two days, and she cruised to a first place finish in the 100m hurdles. Gaita's NCAA DII provisional time of 14.18 was 0.57 quicker than her next-closest competitor in the field of 20, and it was only two-hundredths off her school record set last weekend at ESU.
That was one of two first place results for the Warriors this afternoon, as freshman
Anthony Del Popolo beat out 10 other runners in the 400m hurdles after registering a time of 57.51. That mark was just under his PSAC qualifying season-best of 56.33.
Sophomore
Nate Sharrah added a PR of 13-11 1/4 in the pole vault to place tied for third overall. Freshman
Justin Wulff (178-3, javelin) and junior
Montel Johnson-Troupe (22.76, 200m) added fifth place finishes in their respective events, with Johnson-Troupe establishing a new season-best time.
ESU also had strong showings in the women's javelin, with junior
Taylor Watkins (126-7) taking fifth place and sophomore
Hannah Marth (123-6) following closely behind in seventh.
