EAST STROUDSBURG – West Chester SS Alyssa Herion hit a pair of home runs, including a go-ahead long ball in the opener, to help the Golden Rams earn a hard-fought sweep over East Stroudsburg University in the 2017 home opening doubleheader for the Warriors at Zimbar Field on Monday afternoon.
Herion lifted a two-run shot in the fifth inning of a 3-1 victory in Game 1, and she added a solo homer in the second inning of a 3-2 triumph in Game 2. Amanda Houck (16-2) earned two wins in the circle for West Chester (24-6, 2-0 PSAC).

Heather Visco had an RBI triple for the Warriors (7-12, 1-3 PSAC) in the opener, while senior
Danielle Wissinger and junior
Mary Wallick delivered RBI singles in the night cap. Wissinger was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate in Game 2, upping her season average to a team-high .387.
ESU is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday afternoon, traveling to Bloomsburg for a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Game 1: West Chester 3, ESU 1
Visco's triple opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, scoring sophomore
Madison Vicendese after she had reached on a one-out walk. The Golden Rams leveled the score at 1-1 on an unearned run.
Wallick, making her eighth start of the season in the circle for the Warriors, kept the visitors off the scoreboard over the next two innings. She stranded a pair of runners in the third, and junior right-fielder
Katherine Liedberg preserved the tie in the fourth, gunning down Shannon Grey at the plate with the pinch-runner trying to score from second base on a single.
Herion's go-ahead shot came with two outs in the following frame. ESU had baserunners in the fifth and sixth innings, but was unable to add any extra runs off of Houck, who allowed six hits in a complete game victory.
Wallick turned in a strong overall effort, going 2 for 3 with a double in the batter's box and allowing two earned runs on eight hits across seven innings in the circle.
Game 2: West Chester 3, ESU 2
The Golden Rams scored single runs in each of the first two innings off of ESU starting LHP
Rachael Liguori, with an unearned tally in the first coupled with Herion's homer in the second.
The Warriors rallied to tie the score in the bottom of the third. Freshman
Kaylee Hazewski and Vicendese singled to begin the frame, and they were sacrificed into scoring position on a bunt by Visco. Wissinger and Wallick followed with RBI singles to make it 2-2.
Cleanup hitter Cat Hammer hit a go-ahead RBI single up the middle with two outs in the top of the fifth for West Chester.
Houck came on in relief of starter Brooke Harner during ESU's rally in the third, and she kept the Warriors off the scoreboard for the final 4 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and striking out three.
Liguori registered her seventh complete game in eight starts this season, giving up two earned runs on 10 hits and a pair of walks.
Wissinger's three-hit game was her fourth of the spring, while Hazewski and Vicendese each went 2 for 4 with a run scored at the top of the lineup. Hazewski added her 21st stolen base of the season in 26 attempts.
