STROUDSBURG – Freshman
Marina Zardet won at both singles and doubles, and senior
Amber Jadus earned a three-set victory from the top singles spot, but it was not enough as Shippensburg topped East Stroudsburg University by a 5-4 final on Sunday afternoon.
The Raiders (4-7, 2-2 PSAC) snapped a seven-match losing streak to the Warriors (2-8, 0-3 PSAC) which dated back to the 2005-06 season. Shippensburg won two of the three doubles contests, while the teams split the six singles tilts.
ESU's three singles wins came from the top three positions, with Zardet claiming her second-consecutive triumph at No. 3. She defeated Emilie Luttman in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-2, to move to 8-6 overall on the season (7-4 in duals).
Jadus tallied her second dual win of the year (third overall) after outlasting Catherine Miller 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1, and junior
Devin Presby bested Gabbie Binder 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 for her first singles victory of the season.
Zardet and junior
Elizabeth Bartoli teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Luttman and Kaylin Gallagher earlier in the afternoon for the Warriors.
The Raiders won each of the four through six singles matches in straight sets.
This was the first of three home contests for ESU over a seven-day period. The next will take place on Tuesday afternoon, with Millersville in town for a PSAC dual at 3 p.m.
