HOLMDEL, N.J. – Senior
Kaylyn West and freshman
Casey Ellis led their respective teams for a second-consecutive weekend, as East Stroudsburg University continued the regular season portion of its schedule at the Monmouth Invitational on Saturday morning.
West placed 14th overall in a field of 124 runners with a 5K time of 19:12.31. Eight of the 11 schools competing in today's meet were Division I institutions. The Warriors (18 points) ranked first out of the three non-DI schools at the competition.
Following West was sophomore
Rachael Davalos, who crossed the line in a mark of 19:47.97 which placed her 34th. After Davalos was senior
Samantha Young (19:55.96, 37th), senior
Jasmine Amro (20:47.76, 64th) and sophomore
Jenna Vledder (21:06.39, 70th).
Ellis completed the men's five mile race in 27:46.37, a time which was good enough for 31st place overall in a field of 113 runners. He was followed by sophomore
Mike Sheptuk (28:19.18, 45th), senior
Dan Buccino (28:44.58, 52nd), senior
J.P. Montgomery (28:50.03, 56th) and junior
Khai Samuels (29:06.61, 60th). Samuels placed in ESU's top five for the second time in his collegiate cross country career.
The Warrior men also placed first out of the three non-DI schools on Saturday, finishing with a team score of 15 points.
ESU will have next weekend off before returning to action at Salisbury's Don Cathcart Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 30.
