EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore Sam Dunphy had 12 kills and three blocks, and sophomore Jasmine Williams added nine kills and five blocks as East Stroudsburg University continued its strong recent form with a 3-0 win over Pace at Koehler Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.

Sophomore Sarah Smith (11 kills, 11 digs) chipped in her fifth double-double of the year for the Warriors (10-3), who improved to 7-1 in their last eight matches. ESU had a 9-1 edge in blocks and an 8-3 advantage in aces over the Setters (4-9). Set scores were 25-16, 25-21, 27-25.

The Warriors set the tone for the match early on, registering a team attack percentage of .355 in the opening set compared to -.030 for the visitors. Smith, who was honored as the PSAC Southeast Athlete of the Week earlier in the day, had six of her 11 kills in that opening frame.

The teams were deadlocked at 20-20 in the second set, but ESU used a 5-1 run, highlighted by three kills from Williams, to open up a commanding 2-0 lead.

Pace appeared to be on its way to extending the match in the third, with the visitors jumping out to a 20-12 lead. Back-to-back kills from senior Desiree Claxton, however, began a 6-0 run for the Warriors which got them back into the set. An ace by senior Sarah Fillman pulled the teams level at 23-23, and another Williams kill gave the home side its first match point.

The Setters would ultimately save a pair of match points to set up a 25-25 tie. A Claxton kill put the ESU back in front, and Williams' fifth block wrapped up the win on the following point.

Williams, who entered the night ranked fourth in the PSAC in blocks per set, registered at least five blocks in a match for the fourth time this season. Her nine kills were backed by a .529 attack percentage.

Dunphy was also consistent in her attacks, finishing the match with a .458 hitting percentage. Her 12 kills were a new season high.

Senior Erica Cunningham added 39 assists and a team-best three aces, while senior Rosa Veliky totaled 14 digs.

The Warriors return to PSAC play this weekend, as they travel to Seton Hill (7 p.m.) on Friday and California (1 p.m.) on Saturday.
