EAST STROUDSBURG - No. 2-ranked East Stroudsburg University scored two goals in the first 1:59, led 5-0 at halftime and added three more in the second half for an 8-0 win over No. 5 Stonehill in non-conference field hockey on Sunday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

ESU (2-0), which won 2-1 vs. No. 9 Merrimack in its season opener on Saturday, sets up a No. 1 vs. No. 2 match-up on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Whitenight Field as the Warriors host top-ranked Shippensburg (2-0), the defending NCAA Division II champion.

ESU's eight goals vs. Stonehill are its most against a nationally-ranked (top 10) opponent since NFHCA DII poll information is available from 2004. The Warriors fell 8-7 (OT) at Stonehill in an early season game in 2014.

The Warriors' two goals in the first 1:59 are the program's fastest since at least 2003. ESU scored twice in the first 2:34 at Mansfield in 2004.

Seven players scored for the Warriors and senior back Sydney McCarthy added three assists, after posting a goal, assist and defensive save in the 2-1 win vs. Merrimack on Saturday.

Senior forward Melanie Shambaugh scored ESU's opening goal for the second straight game, striking just 60 seconds into the contest, followed by a goal by senior midfielder Hannah Caplan just 59 seconds later for a  2-0 lead.

The Warriors made it 3-0 as junior midfielder Karisa Turner scored from McCarthy just over nine minutes in. Junior forward Bailey Quinn, ESU's second-leading scorer with eight goals last season, had her first of the year for a 4-0 lead at the midpoint of the first half.

Junior back Amanda Crampton's first career goal, assisted by McCarthy, with 1:40 left in the first half pushed the margin to 5-0.

Sophomore midfielder Emily Spangler scored her first two career goals in the second half, with 12:05 and 4:53 remaining, the second assisted by Crampton.

Junior midfielder Kelli Shapiro scored on McCarthy's third assist of the day early in the second half.

ESU held advantages of 32-5 in shots and 15-2 in penalty corners, including 19-2 in shots and 9-1 in corners in the first half.

Stonehill (0-2), which fell 3-1 at No. 3 Millersville on Saturday, did not have a shot on goal in the contest.

Senior goalkeeper Halle Frisco played the first 62:27 and sophomore Maddie Richie finished the last 7:33 in the cage for the Warriors.

Sara Freedman made 15 saves for Stonehill as ESU put 23 of its 31 shots on goal.

ESU will play in its fourth "1 vs. 2" match-up in the NFHCA DII poll in the last three years on Wednesday, and has won each of the first three, including twice against Shippensburg last year.

No. 1 ESU edged No. 2 Millersville, 1-0, for the 2015 PSAC championship. Last season, No. 1 ESU won 1-0 (OT) at No. 2 Shippensburg in September, and No. 2 ESU earned a 2-1 (OT) win vs. No. 1 Shippensburg in October.
