Box Score (Game 1)  |  Box Score (Game 2)

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Senior Rosa Veliky set a new program record for digs in a three-set match in the opener, and sophomore Sarah Smith totaled a team-high 20 kills to help East Stroudsburg University sweep New Haven and Pace by 3-0 finals at Georgian Court on Friday.

Veliky had 34 digs against New Haven, as the Warriors bested a team which has reached the NCAA tournament in 11-straight seasons and was in the Elite Eight as recently as 2014. The previous ESU three-set digs record was 31, a mark set by Maddie Hutchinson at Shippensburg in 2015.

The Warriors (3-1) completed their impressive afternoon with a three-set win over Pace, a team which went 23-9 in 2016 and swept ESU when the two teams met last September. The Warriors hit over 40 percent as a team in each of the first two sets, ending the match with a .303 attack percentage overall.

Smith had a team-high 12 kills against New Haven, and she added eight more against Pace. Sophomore Jasmine Williams combined for 13 kills (with a .520 attack percentage) and eight blocks while senior Courtney Miller supplied 12 kills (.480 attack percentage) and seven blocks.

ESU concludes its participation in Georgian Court's tournament on Saturday, with the Warriors playing NYIT at 12 p.m. and Mercy at 4 p.m.

Match 1: ESU 3, New Haven 0 (28-26, 25-19, 25-23)

The Chargers used a 6-0 run to grab an 18-13 advantage in the opening set. ESU responded with a 7-2 run of its own to level up the score, and the teams would go back and forth the rest of the way. UNH earned its second set point at 26-25, but a kill from senior Desiree Claxton capped off a 3-0 Warrior run to clinch the frame.

Trailing 15-14, the Warriors took control of the second set with a 7-0 run, including six points earned on Claxton's serve. ESU again faced a deficit in the third set, as the Chargers won five-straight points to take a 19-14 lead. The Warriors came right back to win the next five points, and a UNH attack error ended the match shortly afterwards.

Smith registered her fifth-career double-double in the win, totaling 11 digs to go along with her 12 kills. Claxton added 11 kills and nine digs, Williams managed nine kills with a .529 attack percentage, and senior Erica Cunningham had 31 assists, 15 digs and two aces.

New Haven (0-5) won the program's 23rd conference championship in 2016. The Chargers have qualified for the NCAA tournament 31 times overall, advancing to the Elite Eight on 13 occasions.

Match 2: ESU 3, Pace 0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-17)

ESU only trailed once throughout the match, at 2-1 in the third and final set. The Warriors dominated at the net, finishing with a 10-1 edge in blocks, and they held the Setters to a negative attack percentage (-.026).

Miller and sophomore Sam Dunphy each had a team-high nine kills, with Miller managing a .750 attack percentage. Veliky added 17 digs, giving her 51 total for the afternoon.

Cunningham matched her 31-assist total from the opener, and she also supplied 11 digs and five kills. Williams totaled four kills and a team-best five blocks.

ESU's 3-1 start is the program's best since 2014.
