KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Senior
Christian Castro and freshman
Dominic Walton registered historical performances on the men's side, while junior
Marissa Flim and sophomore Me'Saj Closs had standout efforts for the women to lead East Stroudsburg University at Friday night's Golden Bear Invitational at Kutztown.
Castro took first place in the 55-meter dash, with his time of 6.42 matching an O'Pake Fieldhouse facility record which was originally established in 1993. It is also tied for the second-quickest time in ESU program history, one-hundredth off the school record set by Andrew McCloskey in 2010.
Walton, meanwhile, broke an ESU freshman record in the shot put which had stood since 1982, as his top toss of 51-0 was nearly three feet further than the old mark of 48-0 1/2 held by Glen Pinciotti. Walton's throw, which was over four feet ahead of sophomore
Noah Lockwood (47-8 1/2) in second place, ranks him No. 4 overall in program history. The Warriors registered a total of three PSAC-qualifying distances in the event, as freshman
Matt Napoleon booked his spot with a top throw of 45-5 1/4.
Flim and Closs each posted marks which place them No. 3 in program history in the 55m dash and weight throw, respectively. Flim's time of 7.21 in the preliminary round was one-hundredth under her previous career best, while Closs registered a throw of 50-1 1/4 which was an inch further than her PR set at ESU's season-opening meet at Lehigh in December.
The Warriors ended Friday with a total of nine individual first place finishes and 12 new PSAC qualifying marks. Six of those first place showings came on the women's side, while the men had seven of the 12 new conference marks.
