NEW YORK – Senior Samantha Young, sophomore Sarah Klag, junior Shante Dorin and senior Kaylyn West broke a 21-year old school record in the Distance Medley Relay, while senior Christian Castro continued his march up the national leaderboard in the 60-meter hurdles to lead East Stroudsburg University on the Armory Track in Manhattan on Friday.

The women's DMR team took third place out of 12 in a field of primarily Division I schools after completing the event in an NCAA Division II provisional standard of 12:04.60. That mark is over three seconds under the previous ESU record of 12:08.31 established by Tina Vosper, Shannon O'Donnell, Sarah Sheldon and Jan Blake in 1997, and it is the eighth-quickest time registered in DII this season.

Young ran the opening 1200m leg in 3:45.01. Klag clocked in at 1:00.11 in the 400m portion, Dorin finished the 800m in 2:22.15 and West closed out the relay with a time of 4:57.31 in the 1600m.

Castro, meanwhile, was one of three DII runners to place in the top eight in the 60 hurdles. His personal-best time of 8.06 in the preliminaries was two-hundredths off his previous PR established at Bucknell last Saturday, and it is currently tied for the seventh-quickest time in DII on the year. Castro is only an additional two-hundredths away from the ESU record of 8.04 set by Rusty Smith in 2008.

The Warriors had a total of 10 competitors take part in the Dr. Sander Invitational/Columbia Challenge at the Armory. Three of those 10 raced in the men's 3000m, where senior Dan Buccino registered a new PSAC-qualifying time of 8:58.32 on the banked track. Buccino was joined in the race by junior J.P. Montgomery (9:06.27) and junior Tom Ciaccio (9:09.94).

Freshman Dominic Walton was the lone field participant, as he placed ninth out of 24 throwers in the shot put with a top toss of 48-6 3/4. That distance is less than three feet off his ESU freshman record of 51-1 established at Kutztown on Jan. 12.

Senior Zack Krieger competed in the mile, taking seventh place in his heat with a time of 4:33.54.

The rest of ESU's track & field squad returns to action at Lehigh's John Covert Classic on Saturday.
