EAST STROUDSBURG – Mackenzie Gebhardt scored the only goal of the game with 4:29 remaining in regulation, as No. 23 Bloomsburg slipped past East Stroudsburg University by a 1-0 final at Eiler-Martin Stadium on Sunday.
The Huskies (10-2-1, 10-2-1) took over sole possession of first place in the PSAC standings after entering the afternoon tied with the Warriors (10-4-1, 9-3-1).
Gebhardt's goal was a tap-in on the left side after she was set up by a cross from Rachel Clouser. ESU earned a corner kick in the final minute of the contest, but was unable to generate a shot in the ensuing sequence.
The Warriors were held to four shots overall across the 90 minutes, with the only effort on target a 26th minute attempt by senior
Alex Pickett which was turned aside by Bloomsburg goalie Jenna Hawkins.
The Huskies had 10 shots, including two near misses by Lauren Hoelke late in the first half. Her first attempt hit the crossbar at 39:16, and her second was deflected by freshman goalkeeper
Mauri Jackson off the post three minutes later.
Bloomsburg, which has now won six games in a row, had five of the six shots after the intermission.
The Warriors suffered their first home defeat of the season; they are now 5-1-1 at Eiler-Martin Stadium on the year.
ESU has another difficult matchup on Wednesday, traveling to No. 8 Kutztown (12-2, 10-2) for a PSAC contest scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
