ESU Field Hockey Maintains No. 2 Spot in NFHCA DII Coaches’ Poll

EAST STROUDSBURG – The NFHCA released its latest NCAA Division II National Coaches' Poll on Tuesday, with East Stroudsburg University holding onto its No. 2 ranking after a registering a pair of shutout victories last week.

The Warriors (9-2) topped then-No. 7 Bloomsburg by a 3-0 final on Tuesday, and they blanked Slippery Rock 4-0 on Saturday to match a team record with their fifth-straight clean sheet. Five of ESU's nine victories on the year have come against nationally-ranked opponents.

Junior Karly Conway had three of the team's four goals against Slippery Rock, and she now has a team-high 16 points (7 G, 2 A) on the year. Seniors Bailey Quinn (5 G, 1 A) and Kelli Shapiro (3 G, 5 A) follow with 11 points, while seniors Paige Harrold (4 G, 2 A) and Makenna Marhefka (4 G, 2 A) each have 10.

Junior Maddie Richie leads all Division II goalkeepers in goals-against average (0.47), and she is third nationally in save percentage (.821). As a team, the Warriors lead DII in GAA (0.45), save percentage (.844) and scoring margin (+3.05). They have outscored opponents 39-5 through their first 11 contests.

West Chester (9-1) maintained its No. 1 ranking in the poll after picking up victories over Shippensburg (4-2) and Mercyhurst (3-2) last week. The Golden Rams received 212 points and 17 of 22 available first place votes.

ESU followed with 191 points and one of the remaining first place votes. Merrimack, Pace, Shippensburg (t-5) and Stonehill (t-5) round out the top five.

The Warriors will face their eighth nationally-ranked opponent of the season on Wednesday, as No. 7 Kutztown heads to Whitenight Field for a matchup beginning at 3:30 p.m.
