Box Score
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Senior
Karisa Turner made her first goal of the season count, as she fired in the game-winner 5:39 into overtime to lift East Stroudsburg University to a 3-2 victory at No. 7 Millersville on Tuesday.
The Warriors (12-2, 7-0 PSAC) increased their winning streak to eight games, a mark which is tied for the third longest in program history. Senior
Bailey Quinn added a pair of first-half goals for the visitors, who improved to 7-2 against nationally-ranked opponents this fall.
The Marauders (7-5, 3-3 PSAC) extended the game on a tying marker by Erica Tarsi with 2:20 remaining in regulation.
That would turn out to be the final shot of the contest until ESU's deciding rush on goal midway through the first overtime session. Millersville's Autumn Peters made a big save on freshman
Celeste Veenstra to start the attack, with the ball then finding its way onto the stick of senior
Paige Harrold.
Harrold's shot into the circle was blocked, but it was directed straight to Turner, who blasted a low shot into the corner from the right side. The goal was the sixth of her ESU career, and her first since Sept. 17, 2017 at Molloy.
ESU, which held onto its No. 2 ranking in the latest NFHCA DII poll released earlier in the afternoon, fell behind after just 22 seconds on a goal Kyra Brakefield. Quinn, though, quickly equalized at 4:13 when she tipped in a long-range shot by senior
Ashley Ceschini.
Quinn then put the Warriors in front less than two minutes before the intermission, as she swatted a pass from freshman
Taylor Gramberg out of midair and into the back of the cage.
Gramberg registered her first collegiate point on the play, while Quinn now leads ESU with nine goals this season. She was a second team NFHCA All-American after totaling a team-high 13 goals back in 2017.
The game-tying goal for Millersville late in regulation was only the third marker allowed by the Warrior defense in the second half this season. ESU has not outscored opponents 22-3 in the second half, and 49-9 overall on the year.
Junior
Maddie Richie made four saves in goal to secure her 12th victory of the season, including a memorable penalty stroke save on Tarsi which kept the score tied 1-1 early in the contest. Shots were 10-9 in favor of ESU, and both teams earned a total of seven penalty corners.
The Warriors now have eight days off before a big trip to No. 1 West Chester next Wednesday. The Golden Rams (12-1, 6-0 PSAC) take a 12-game winning streak into tomorrow's PSAC matchup at Kutztown; they edged ESU 2-1 in overtime during the team's non-conference meeting at Whitenight Field on Sept. 27.
