PITTSBURGH, Pa. – East Stroudsburg University sophomore midfielder Lexi Hartmann was announced Tuesday night as the recipient of the Elite 90 Award for this year's NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship.

The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standing among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.

Hartmann (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) holds a 4.0 GPA through her first 30 credits while majoring in early childhood education. She has appeared in all 19 games this season in a reserve midfield role for the Warriors. Hartmann's first collegiate goal was the game-winner in a 4-0 win over defending DII champions Shippensburg on Sept. 19, and she added a second goal in ESU's 6-0 victory over Seton Hill on Sept. 29.

The Warriors have now received three of the past four DII field hockey Elite 90 awards, as former standout Sydney McCarthy was honored in both 2015 and 2017.

Eligible student-athletes for the award are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with the school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and a designated member of the squad size at the championship. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
