EAST STROUDSBURG – Freshman Gerhardt Reiter pinned Scranton's A.J. Sortino (2:04) in the final bout to give the East Stroudsburg University wrestling team a 26-24 victory over the Royals on Tuesday inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
 
Reiter, wrestling at 133, needed at least five points to give ESU (1-0) its first dual victory of the season after Scranton (4-5) took a 24-20 lead with a win at 125. Reiter improved his overall record to 6-4 on the season and recorded his third fall in the process.
 
ESU started the night by notching a pair of victories at 141 and 149 to take an 11-0 advantage over the Royals. Junior Colby Ems delivered an 18-3 tech. fall (3:10) against Scranton's Brandon Altieri to give the Warriors a 5-0 lead.
 
Junior Pierre Liciaga recorded a pin (2:37) at 149 against Alexander Tillman of the Royals to give ESU a double-digit advantage in its first dual of the season. Scranton would come storming back, trimming the deficit to 11-9. The Royals tallied six points via a medical forfeit at 157 and followed by adding three more points in a 7-3 decision at 165.
 
The Warriors would gain some momentum back as junior Richard Viruet notched a 14-11 decision at 174 against Scranton's Aidan McNally to make it 14-9 ESU. Viruet improved to 9-1 overall on the season with the victory. Redshirt junior Mike Raccioppi gave ESU a 20-9 lead in the dual thanks to a fall (1:01) against the Royals' William Fauerbach. The pin was Raccioppi's third of the season.
 
Scranton tallied victories in each of the next three bouts as Keegan Connelly recorded a tech. fall (7:00) against ESU freshman Cameron Kates at 285 to knot the score 20-20. Matthew Murawski followed with a 16-6 major decision at 125 that gave the Royals a four-point edge with just one bout remaining.
 
In the final bout, Reiter fought-back against Scranton's Sortino to pin his counterpart at the 2:04 mark and give ESU a 26-24 victory in the dual. The Royals had won the previous two matches in the head-to-head matchup between the two sides.

The Warriors return to the mat on Dec. 1 as ESU travels to Gannon to open PSAC action with a dual matchup against the Golden Knights beginning at 1 p.m.
