Box Score
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – East Stroudsburg University's push for a fifth-consecutive conference championship came up one game short, as Erin Bielski headed in a game-winning goal 7:28 into overtime to send Bloomsburg to a 2-1 victory in the PSAC women's soccer title game on Sunday.
Senior
Alex Pickett put the Warriors (14-6-1) in front with 7:53 remaining in regulation, but Jessica Milligan answered for the Huskies less than two minutes later to force extra time. Bloomsburg (15-2-3) clinches its first PSAC championship since 2002 and earns an automatic bid into this year's Division II tournament.
ESU, which was listed No. 8 in the latest Atlantic Region rankings released earlier in the week, will hope to move into position for an at-large bid. The Warriors knocked off No. 2 Kutztown (2-0) and No. 3 Millersville (3-2, OT) on their way to the title game. A total of six teams advance to the tournament from the region, with four at-large choices joining the PSAC and Mountain East champions; the NCAA selection show is set to take place at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Scoring chances were few and far between in the opening half. Pickett had perhaps the best chance for either side, but her free header in the 36th minute was secured by Bloomsburg goalie Jenna Hawkins.
The pace picked up after the intermission. Sophomore
Haley Skove and junior
Syd Hicks cleared away two early BU scoring opportunities on the backline, and junior
Monica Wood had a low shot go just wide of the left post six minutes into the second half.
Pickett's goal, her fourth in as many games, came after an initial effort by junior
Amy Strauser was fired off the post. Pickett, who had seven of ESU's 10 shots in the contest, has eight goals this fall and 31 overall in her Warrior career.
Bloomsburg responded with 6:25 left on the clock, as Milligan directed a Lauren Hoelke corner past freshman goalkeeper
Mauri Jackson. The winner for the Huskies also came on a scramble following a Hoelke corner in overtime. Hoelke was recognized postgame as the PSAC Tournament MVP.
ESU, the tournament's No. 7 seed, had defeated a pair of nationally-ranked teams on its way to the final, with Kutztown ranked No. 12 and Millersvile No. 22 in the latest United Soccer Coaches' DII poll. Bloomsburg, the top seed in the tournament, entered this afternoon's contest ranked No. 7 nationally.
The Huskies clinch the program's fourth-ever PSAC title. ESU's run of four-straight championships from 2014-17 is the longest in conference history; the Warriors' six overall PSAC women's soccer titles also remains the most all-time.
