ERIE, Pa. – The most successful season for East Stroudsburg University's volleyball program since 2006 came to an end on Tuesday, with nationally-ranked and top-seeded Gannon earning a 3-0 victory over the Warriors in the PSAC quarterfinals. Set scores were 25-22, 25-17, 25-15.
The Golden Knights (29-1) extend their winning streak to 18 matches and earn an opportunity to host this year's PSAC Final Four over the weekend. ESU's season concludes with a final record of 20-11.
Gannon never trailed in the match. The Warriors pulled within a single point late in both the first and second sets, but were unable to complete their comeback in either frame.
Junior
Jasmine Williams assisted on five of ESU's 10 blocks, upping her final season total to a new program record of 130 blocks on the year. She surpasses the previous mark of 127 set by Caitlin Kuhn back in 2008. Williams will enter her senior season 120 behind Kuhn for the all-time team record.
Redshirt sophomore
Trea-sure Ketter matched Williams with five blocks at the net. Freshman
Andrea Coyle supplied a team-high 10 kills with a .258 attack percentage, while junior
Sarah Smith added nine kills. Freshman
Emily Meredith (15) and junior
Becca Huddleston (11) each reached double figures in digs.
Ashley Kerestes had 10 kills with a match-high .474 hitting percentage for the Golden Knights, and Ashley McClung led all hitters with 12 kills.
Gannon jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in set one, and maintained a 19-12 in the later stages of the frame. Back-to-back kills by Smith capped a 10-4 run which reduced the deficit to 23-22 before Gannon closed out the set on kills by Lauren Sampson and Ally Smith.
Set two played out in similar fashion, with a 15-10 Golden Knight advantage reduced to 17-16 before the home side took eight of the final nine points. Gannon then jumped out to a 15-4 lead to take control in the final set.
Senior
Tina Predojevic finished with 26 assists, seven digs and four blocks in her final collegiate match. She leaves ESU ranked fourth all-time in aces (133) and sixth in assists (2,217). Her 50 aces this season were the most by a Warrior player in 18 years.
The Warriors' 20 victories were the most for the program since the 2006 team finished with a final record of 21-14. Their PSAC tournament appearance was the first since 2008.
