MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Junior Madison Vicendese had four hits across two games, while freshman Ashley Spencer belted a home run as part of a three-hit performance in the nightcap, as East Stroudsburg University concluded play at its season-opening tournament in Myrtle Beach on Sunday.

The Warriors fell 8-3 to Merrimack in the morning, and dropped an 11-8 decision to Wilmington later in the afternoon to finish off the weekend with a 1-5 record. Of ESU's six opponents over the past three days, all had at least 27 wins last season, four advanced to the NCAA Division II tournament, and one (Molloy) made it to the College World Series as East Region champions.

Vicendese totaled three of ESU's seven hits in today's opener against Merrimack. She scored the first Warrior run on an RBI single by freshman Kaitlyn Caleen in the second inning, and she added an RBI single in the top half of the fifth. Vicendese's three-hit game was the fourth of her ESU career; she hit .353 overall on the weekend.

The Warriors other run in Game 1 came following a bases loaded walk to senior Heather Visco in the fifth. Merrimack (5-0) plated runs in each of the first five innings. Trailing by five in the final inning, ESU loaded the bases with only one out in the frame, but Merrimack's Bridget Soraghan entered the circle and retired the final two batters to earn the save.

Freshman RHP Taylor Keeney (0-1) allowed five earned runs over three innings of work for the Warriors.

ESU gave up three runs in the opening inning of Game 2 against Wilmington (4-2). The Warriors, though, rallied in the second, as Spencer hit a two-run shot after a leadoff single by Vicendese to reduce the deficit to one. ESU then took the lead after two-out RBI singles by sophomore Kaylee Hazewski and freshman Marissa Govan.

Govan went 3 for 7 overall on Sunday, and she hit .421 (8-19) with a .476 on-base percentage while starting all six games in her first collegiate tournament.

The Wildcats regained a 5-4 lead in the bottom half of the second. After a scoreless third, freshman Morgan Walsh leveled up the score with a pinch-hit RBI single to plate Caleen following her one-out double.

Wilmington went ahead for good with a four-run fifth inning. The Warriors kept things close with three runs of their own in the sixth, as freshman Sofia Cecchin delivered an RBI single and senior Madison Oren came through with a pinch-hit, two-run double, but they were unable to push across the tying run.

The Wildcats added two insurance runs off junior RHP Angelica Dark (1-3) in the bottom of the sixth.

Spencer, Hazewski, Govan, Caleen and freshman MacKenzie Lewis each registered multi-hit games for ESU in Game 2. Sophomore RHP Lily Moresco, meanwhile, tossed scoreless innings in the circle in both games on Sunday.

The Warriors have next weekend off before returning to action with a three-game series at Virginia State on March 3-4. The series begins with an 11 a.m. doubleheader that Saturday.
