Mike Raccioppi bowed out of the NCAA Division II Super Region 1 Championships on Saturday afternoon, ending his season with a 20-6 record.
Raccioppi, the No. 1 seed at 165 pounds, won his quarterfinal bout by technical fall on Friday over Logan Shurine (Alderson-Broaddus), but dropped all three of his matches on Saturday to place sixth.
He lost a 12-8 decision vs. No. 5 Nate Ross (Gannon), a 2016 national qualifier, in the semifinals, fell 13-8 vs. No. 6 Keegan Driscoll (Wheeling Jesuit) in the consolation semifinals and lost a 9-4 decision vs. No. 4 Anthony Dailey (Notre Dame OH) in the fifth/sixth place match.
Raccioppi finishes his first full season competing for ESU at 20-6, including 16-4 vs. DII competition and 11-3 against in-region opponents.
He was the region's No. 1-ranked wrestler at 165 pounds since November 22, after knocking off Devin Austin (Pitt-Johnstown) the night before.
He entered the regional ranked No. 6 in Division II.
