EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University wrapped up the regular season portion of its schedule with the annual ESU Invitational at Koehler Fieldhouse on Saturday. Seniors
Allison Cardow,
Colleen Dwyer,
Annie Fagan,
Rebecca Samson,
Shirley Samson and
Kate Zimmerman were honored prior to the start of the meet as they took part in their final home collegiate competition.
Cardow and Zimmerman would then go on to combine for three individual event wins on the afternoon. Cardow bested the field in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.74), and she was just shy of a PSAC-qualifying time while placing second in the 500 freestyle (5:31.95). Zimmerman, meanwhile, cruised to victories in the 400 individual medley (4:55.57) and 200 breaststroke (2:31.30), and she lowered her own pool record in the 50 breast (30.60) in the final race of the meet.
The Warriors were joined by Kutztown and Millersville at this year's tournament, with Warrior swimmers touching the line first in 10 of 14 contested individual events. Sophomore
Tarah Killane posted a season-best performance in the 1,650 free, as her time of 18:06.64 was nearly 30 seconds under her previous top effort of 18:35.24. Killane's PR in the event of 17:57.33, established last season, ranks No. 2 in program history.
Junior
Briana Hall (1:01.08) edged Millersville's Judith Miller (1:01.27) by less than two-tenths of a second in the 100 butterfly, and she added an additional first place result in the 100 free (55.39). Freshman
Taylor Howery and sophomore
Olivia Lukshides also registered first place efforts in the 200 back (2:22.24) and 200 free (2:01.96), respectively.
The Warriors' six seniors have each been part of the swim program throughout their four years at ESU, and they have combined to qualify for the PSAC championships 65 times across 10 different events.
A total of 10 ESU swimmers can now look ahead to this year's conference meet, which is scheduled to take place in York, Pa., from Feb. 21-24. The Warriors will be aiming to improve on a ninth place finish in the team standings at the 2017 competition.
