SALEM, Va. – Senior
Heather Visco had four hits, including the 100th of her collegiate career, to lead East Stroudsburg University's offense on Day 2 of a three-day tournament in Salem, Va.
Three of Visco's four hits came in a 9-2 win over Concord to begin the day. The afternoon concluded with a 9-4 setback to Wheeling Jesuit.
Visco's milestone hit was her first of the day, as she belted a two-run home run in the first inning against Concord after fellow senior
Mary Wallick had walked and stolen a base.
That 2-0 lead held up for ESU until the top of the fifth, when the Mountain Lions (2-6) plated two runs of their own to level up the score. The Warriors, though, quickly moved back in front in the bottom half of the frame, as RBIs by sophomore
Kaylee Hazewski and Wallick made it 4-2.
ESU put the game away with five runs in the following inning. Visco finished the opening contest with three hits and three RBIs, while Wallick (1-1, 3 BB) reached base in all four trips and Hazewski and freshman
Kaitlyn Caleen added two hits apiece.
Junior RHP
Angelica Dark (4-4) went all seven innings in the circle, allowing 10 hits and two runs while registering her fifth complete game in seven starts on the year.
The Warriors and Wheeling Jesuit were tied 3-3 after ESU plated three runs in the top half of the fourth in Game 2. Caleen drove in the first run, while freshman
Morgan Walsh plated the other two on a clutch two-out pinch-hit RBI single.
The teams traded runs in the next two half innings, with an RBI double by Vicendese in the fifth tying the score at 4-4 after the Cardinals had briefly regained a one-run advantage.
Wheeling Jesuit took the lead for good with five runs in the bottom half of the fifth. ESU loaded the bases with no one out in the sixth, but was unable to push any additional runs across.
Caleen, Grabowski, and senior
Madison Oren each had two-hit outings at the plate for the Warriors in Game 2.
ESU (6-8) concludes its weekend tournament on Sunday, with the Warriors scheduled to face Chowan at 10 a.m.
