ESU Tennis Downs Shepherd 8-1 for First Victory of 2017-18

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Four players won at both singles and doubles, helping East Stroudsburg University's women's tennis program begin its spring schedule with an 8-1 victory over Shepherd on Sunday.

The Warriors (1-4) defeated the Rams (3-8) in six of the seven contested matches, with the final two points gained by forfeits at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

ESU swept the two doubles contests, as sophomores Marina Zardet and Aubrianna Stetina won 8-6 at No. 1 and seniors Elizabeth Bartoli and Devin Presby won at No. 2 by an 8-5 score. Both pairs picked up their first dual victories of 2017-18.

Three of the Warriors' four singles wins came in straight sets, with Zardet (6-3, 6-1 at No. 1) and Bartoli (6-4, 6-0 at No. 5) each dropping only four games. Stetina edged Shepherd's Anna Bock 7-5, 7-5 at No. 3, and Presby outlasted Alisha Adkins 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) in a super tiebreaker at No. 2.

Zardet improved to 4-1 in dual contests this season, while Stetina has won three of her five singles bouts in duals. Presby and Bartoli each earned their first dual singles wins of the year.

The Warriors have four matches scheduled during their week-long stay in Hilton Head. Next up is a matchup with Quincy on Tuesday morning.
