Box Score
LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – Senior
Chessie Rahmer registered the 100th goal of her collegiate career, and she was one of 12 different point scorers for East Stroudsburg University in a dominant 19-5 victory at Chestnut Hill on Wednesday.
The Warriors (1-1), returning to action for the first time since March 4, out-shot the Griffins (1-2) by a 54-19 margin. Sophomore
Hana Cicerelle led the offense with a career-high four goals and an assist, while junior
TJ Jefferis (3 G, 1 A), freshman
Bailey McMaster (3 G, 1 A) and junior
Emma Rufolo (2 G) also had multiple goals in the win.
Rahmer, a third team IWLCA All-America selection in 2017, becomes the 18th player in program history to score 100 goals for ESU. Her unassisted strike gave the Warriors an 11-2 advantage with 9:04 remaining in the first half.
ESU never trailed, jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the opening five minutes and gradually building its advantage from there. The Warriors' 54 shots were their most in a game since they had 55 in last year's season opener, a 20-11 home win over Chestnut Hill.
Other goal scorers were senior
Alicia Stratten (1 G, 2 A), junior
Brooke Fritz (1 G, 1 A), sophomore
Rylie Toomey (1 G, 1 A), sophomore
Cassidy McKenna (1 G, 1 A) and freshmen
Shannon Dent and
Krista Mitarotonda. Freshman
Abbey Castor added an assist for ESU, which registered assists on nine of its 19 goals.
Cicerelle's five points matched a career-high which was originally established in a two-goal, three-assist effort during ESU's PSAC semifinal victory over IUP last May. She has a team-high six goals in the early stages of 2018 after totaling 26 goals and 13 assists in her debut season last spring.
The Warriors had commanding advantages in both ground balls (42-27) and draw controls (18-6). Rahmer and Fritz had seven ground balls apiece, while Mitarotonda led the way with seven draw controls; she has 15 through the season's first two contests.
Sophomore
Tatyana Petteway made 10 saves and allowed four goals over the first 47:14 in goal before giving way to sophomore
Michelle Dyck for the final 12+ minutes of regulation.
ESU returns to action on Saturday, opening up PSAC play with a 3 p.m. contest at Seton Hill. The Warriors, who were ranked first in the preseason coaches' poll, went 11-1 in league play last year before ultimately claiming the program's first conference championship.
