Elizabeth Bartoli earned a super tiebreak victory at No. 5 singles to lift East Stroudsburg University to a 5-4 victory over Clarion on Thursday.
Bartoli outlasted Clarion's Michelle Petrilla 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) to clinch the decisive point for the Warriors. She improved to 3-0 in singles during ESU's Spring Break trip in Hilton Head.
ESU (2-5) jumped in front after winning two of the three doubles matches. Bartoli and senior
Devin Presby earned an 8-3 decision from the No. 2 position, and freshman
Amanda Jackson and
Quinn McCluskey won 8-2 at No. 3. McCluskey and Jackson are 2-0 as a team on the trip, and they are 5-2 overall this season.
The Warriors' other two singles victories came in straight sets, as McCluskey blanked Hailey Germanoski 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 and sophomore
Marina Zardet bested Alivia Arnold 6-2, 6-2 from the top singles spot. Zardet is now 5-2 in duals this year and 6-4 in all singles competitions.
The Golden Eagles (3-5) dropped their fourth-consecutive dual.
ESU has now won two of its first three matches on the week. The Warriors will have a chance to clinch a winning trip on Friday, as they face Fairmont State at 8 a.m.
