EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior midfielder Chessie Rahmer scored five goals, including the final three of the game, as No. 20-ranked East Stroudsburg University rallied to overcome a four-goal deficit late in the contest in an 11-10 win over Millersville in PSAC women's lacrosse on Friday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

ESU (3-1, 2-0), the defending PSAC champion, trailed 10-6 with 12:47 remaining as Millersville (5-1, 1-1) outscored the Warriors 5-1 in a 10-minute stretch.

ESU's closing five-goal run came in a span of just 2:36, starting with two goals by junior midfielder Emma Rufolo, the reigning PSAC Athlete of the Year, with 9:09 and 8:21 remaining.

Rahmer scored with 7:52 and 6:54 left to tie the game at 10-10, and netted the go-ahead goal which proved to be the game-winner just 21 seconds later.

ESU had a commanding 18-5 advantage in draw controls, including 12-1 in the second half. Rahmer and freshman midfielder Krista Mitarotonda (2 goals, assist) had seven each.

The Warriors outshot the Marauders, 40-23, but Millersville goalkeeper Shannon Davis produced 19 saves.

Rahmer, an IWLCA All-America third team selection last year who was honored after scoring her 100th career goal on March 14 at Chestnut Hill, added an assist along with her five goals to lead the ESU attack.

Rufolo and Mitarotonda both scored twice, and junior attack TJ Jefferis and sophomore midfielder Hana Cicerelle both had a goal and an assist. Junior attack Brooke Fritz had four assists, including Rahmer's game-winner.

Kristen Butzner had three goals and two assists, Sabrina Fusco had two goals and two assists, Genevieve Speights scored twice and Sara Burney had a goal and four assists for Millersville.

Fusco, the PSAC's top scorer with 27 goals through five games, became Millersville's all-time leader in points.

Millersville led 5-4 at halftime, scoring the final two goals of the period after ESU tied it at 3-all with just over 11 minutes left.

Mitarotonda netted the first of her two second-half goals just under four minutes in to tie it at 5-5. After Marauder goals by Callie Cavanaugh and Erin Fagan, Mitarotonda scored again to get the Warriors within 7-6.

Millersville responded with three straight, taking a commanding four-goal lead on Speights' second of the game, before the Warriors' late surge.

Sophomore Michelle Dyck had two saves in the final 9:09 for ESU in relief of sophomore Tatyana  Petteway, who had five saves while yielding 10 goals as the starter.

ESU's defense produced 17 caused turnovers. Millersville had a slight 28-25 edge in turnovers forced, with ESU having most of the possession and shots with its +13 advantage in draw controls.

The Warriors have won two straight vs. Millersville, following a 13-6 win last year, after dropping four straight in the series.

ESU hosts Edinboro (3-3, 0-2) on Sunday at 11 a.m. in a game pushed back a day from Saturday. The Warriors were originally slated to play Millersville on Tuesday this week before a batch of winter weather.
