EAST STROUDSBURG – Freshman Ashley Spencer had two homers and three RBIs, and fellow freshman Sofia Cecchin delivered a go-ahead two-run single in the bottom of the sixth to help East Stroudsburg University win Game 2 and earn a doubleheader split with Millersville on Friday.

Cecchin's single capped a four-run sixth inning for the Warriors, who took the nightcap by a 6-4 final after trailing 4-1 late. The Marauders edged ESU 5-4 in nine innings in the opener after a two-run homer by freshman Kaitlyn Caleen in the seventh sent the game to extras.

Spencer's long balls were her second and third of the season. Her solo shot in the second inning of Game 2 leveled the score at 1-1. After Millersville scored three in the top of the fifth to take a 4-1 advantage, Spencer's second homer pulled ESU back within two in the bottom half of the frame.

The Warriors loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth to begin their comeback, as junior Madison Vicendese drew a walk in between singles by senior Heather Visco and Caleen. Spencer's third RBI came on a bases loaded walk to make it 4-3, and a Millersville wild pitch tied the game at 4-4.

Two batters later, Cecchin snuck a single down the right field line to put the Warriors ahead for the first time in the contest. Freshman RHP Taylor Keeney then worked around a one-out walk to seal the win in the seventh.

Keeney went the distance in the circle for ESU, allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out three over seven innings. Friday's win improved her overall season record to 3-1.

ESU went to extra innings for the first time this season in the opener. The Marauders led 4-2 after three innings, with both Warrior runs coming in on two-out first inning singles by Vicendese and Caleen.

That score held up until the bottom of the seventh, when Caleen's clutch homer tied things up after Vicendese had led off the inning with a double. Caleen and Spencer have combined for five of ESU's seven homers early on in the season.

The Warrior offense was held in check Millersville starter Catherine Johnson for the remainder of the game, and Morgan Almodovar ultimately put the visitors in front for good with a leadoff homer in the ninth.

ESU had 12 hits in Game 1, with senior Mary Wallick (3 for 5, R) picking up her first three-hit game of the season. Caleen, Vicendese , Visco and sophomore Kaylee Hazewski added two hits apiece for the Warriors.

Junior RHP Angelica Dark struck out five and did not walk a batter while going all nine innings in the circle for ESU. She allowed 12 hits and five runs while registering her sixth complete game in 11 starts.

Friday's doubleheader was the 2018 PSAC East opener for both teams. ESU hits the road for another conference twinbill on Saturday, as the Warriors travel to defending PSAC champions West Chester. Game 1 is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
