SLIPPERY ROCK - Sophomore goalkeeper Tatyana Petteway made nine saves in relief and No. 21-ranked East Stroudsburg University scored five goals in the final 8:52, rallying from a 5-1 halftime deficit, for a 9-7 win at Slippery Rock in PSAC lacrosse on Saturday afternoon.

Junior midfielder Emma Rufolo, junior attack Brooke Fritz, sophomore midfielder Hana Cicerelle and freshman midfielder Krista Mitarotonda scored two goals each for ESU (5-2, 4-1), which fell behind 4-0 early and still trailed 7-4 with 10:30 left before its closing run.

Slippery Rock (5-3, 1-3), coming off a 16-15 win over No. 19 IUP, got 11 saves from Emily Bitka, including eight in the first half.

The Warriors rallied from a four-goal deficit for the second time in four games, scoring the final five goals over the last 9:09 in an 11-10 win vs. Millersville eight days ago.

Five Warriors scored their final five goals. Mitarotonda scored with 8:52 left, Cicerelle at the 6:29 mark and Rufolo the game-tying goal with 4:53 remaining.

Twenty-six seconds later, Fritz gave ESU its first lead of the game, and senior midfielder Chessie Rahmer netted an insurance goal with 2:16 remaining. Senior midfielder Alicia Stratten assisted on the final two goals and Fritz, Rufolo, sophomore attack Cassidy McKenna and freshman attack Bailey McMaster also had assists.

Petteway, who entered after Mitarotonda scored ESU's first goal to cut SRU's lead to 4-1, allowed just three goals over the final 46:42 of the contest.

Jasey Sanders and Kelly Muenster both had a goal and two assists for SRU.

ESU held advantages of 26-19 in shots, 12-6 in draw controls and 36-35 in ground balls. Both teams committed 36 turnovers, with ESU holding SRU to 17-for-36 on clear attempts while going 16-for-23.

Freshman Kayleigh Pokrivka (7 caused turnovers, 7 ground balls), Rahmer (5 caused turnovers, 6 ground balls) and Rufolo (5 caused turnovers, 6 ground balls) led ESU's defensive effort.

ESU was 0-for-9 on free position shots, and SRU was 2-for-5.

The Warriors, the defending PSAC champion, avenged a 12-10 loss at Slippery Rock on March 26 last season, their last loss against a PSAC opponent until ESU's 14-7 setback at No. 13 West Chester on Wednesday.

Mitarotonda pushed her team-leading goal total to 22, followed by Cicerelle (13), Rahmer (13) and Rufolo (10). Fritz scored her third and fourth goals of the season.

ESU hosts Lock Haven on Wednesday and IUP on Saturday in a pair of important PSAC games next week.
