PITTSBURG, Kan. – East Stroudsburg University junior Aspen Gaita competed in the first of her two events at the 2018 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, earning a 13th place finish in the 60-meter hurdles.

Gaita posted a season-best time of 8.61 in the event to place fourth in her heat and 13th out of a total of 18 competitors. She finished one spot and only two-hundredths of a second out of a second team All-America position.

The 2017 PSAC champion in the 60m hurdles, Gaita placed second at this year's conference meet with a finals time of 8.64. She moves up three spots from her 16th place showing at last year's DII Indoor Championships.

Next up for Gaita is the pentathlon, with all five events in the multi to be completed on Saturday. The first of those events, the 60m hurdles, is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. eastern time. Gaita earned second team All-America status in the pentathlon last year after placing 12th at the DII Indoor Championships with 3,530 points. She is the ESU record holder with a personal-best total of 3,701 points.

Gaita enters Saturday ranked 11th out of the 16 student-athletes who qualified for nationals. A full schedule for the competition is listed below. All times after the 60m hurdles are tentative.
