EAST STROUDSBURG – Senior
Mary Wallick had five hits on the afternoon, moving up to fifth on the program's all-time hits list as East Stroudsburg University dropped a pair of games to PSAC East-leading West Chester at Zimbar Field on Saturday.
The Golden Rams (32-11, 12-2 PSAC) won 9-1 in five innings in Game 1, and they took Game 2 by a 7-4 final.
Wallick went 5 for 7 from the No. 2 spot in the lineup. She upped her career hits total to 164, moving her past Rachel Gieringer for No. 5 all-time at ESU. Wallick also added her team-leading 11th double of the season; her 39 career doubles are one shy of Ashley Miller's program record of 40.
West Chester scored in each of its final four trips to the plate in the opener. Bri Garber and Cat Hammer registered three hits apiece to lead the offense, and Amanda Houck struck out six over five innings to improve her season record to 21-3 in the circle. Senior
Madison Oren plated ESU's lone run on an RBI groundout in the fourth after freshman
Ashley Spencer led off the frame with a double.
Spencer added another big hit in Game 2 for the Warriors, as she came through with a three-run triple in the bottom of the sixth. ESU scored four runs overall in the inning to get back in the contest after the Golden Rams had opened up a 7-0 advantage.
Sophomore
Kaylee Hazewski, Wallick and senior
Heather Visco led off the sixth with singles before Spencer's bases-clearing hit. Spencer was brought home two batters later on an RBI single by junior
Madison Vicendese before Houck returned to the circle to end the rally.
Two-out singles by Wallick and Visco brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but Houck then induced a fielder's choice groundout to pick up her second save of the season.
Freshman RHP
Mickayla Grow went the distance in the circle for ESU in the night cap. She allowed only three earned runs over seven innings of work.
Visco went 2 for 4 at the plate in Game 2, and she added her 32nd career stolen base to move into a tie for fifth in program history in steals.
The Warriors (11-21, 3-9 PSAC) are right back at Zimbar Field on Sunday, as they host Pace in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
