EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior Aspen Gaita broke her own school record in the long jump, Dominic Walton established a new freshman record in the discus, and senior Ronald D'Eliseo set a new meet record in the 400-meter hurdles to lead East Stroudsburg University at Saturday's All-American Invitational.

All three reached NCAA Division II provisional standards in their respective events, with senior Christian Castro adding a season-best DII provisional time in the 110m hurdles for the Warriors. ESU concluded its home meet with 13 first-place finishes and seven new PSAC-qualifying marks.

Gaita broke her own outdoor record in the long jump, as she placed first out of 38 competitors with a top effort of 19-1 1/2. That mark, just ahead of her previous record of 19-0, gives her DII provisional standards in three events this spring (long jump, 100m hurdles, heptathlon). It was also a new All-American meet record.

Walton's top throw in the discus was nearly 10 feet further than his previous season best. He took second place in a field of 35 competitors with a top toss of 163-11. That bettered sophomore Noah Lockwood's ESU freshman record of 158-0 from last spring, and it is ranked No. 2 in program history overall, behind only Dane Cochran's 168-11 from back in 1980.

Walton has now reached the DII provisional standard in both the discus and the shot put. He won the shot put on Saturday with a top distance of 52-1, finishing just off his season best of 53-1 1/2.

D'Eliseo had already posted a DII standard time in the 400m hurdles, but he took almost a half-second off that previous best at today's meet. D'Eliseo beat out 22 other runners after crossing the line in 53.09, bettering the old All-American record of 53.29 which was established by Monroe College's Antione Davis in 2013.

Castro rounded out ESU's DII provisional standard efforts on Saturday. He took 0.07 off his old season-best in the 110m hurdles, winning the event with a time of 14.44 that ranks No. 3 in program history. Castro also matched his season best of 21.75 while placing second out of 61 runners in the 200m.

Five of the Warriors new PSAC-qualifying efforts came on the women's side. Senior Abigail Kaspszyk was 0.14 under the conference standard in the 3000m steeplechase, as she booked her spot at PSAC's with a final time of 12:29.86.

Other new qualifiers on the track were senior Kaylyn West (2:17.44) in the 800m and junior Sabrina Phillippe (59.36) in the 400m. West took fourth place out of 61 runners, while Phillippe's time placed her sixth, just back of sophomore teammate Sarah Klag (59.12) in third place.

The ESU women added two new conference qualifiers in the high jump, with junior Carly Gregas and sophomore Tatiana Williams each clearing 5-2 1/4. Williams added a season best mark of 36-5 1/2 in the triple jump which ranks No. 8 in program history.

Other first place individual finishers for the women were Gaita (14.27) in the 100m hurdles, senior Jasmine Amro (10:40.06) in the 3000m, sophomore Allyson Stitzer (1:05.13) in the 400m hurdles and junior Marissa Flim (12.25) in the 100m. Flim was followed by sophomore Tiana Webster (12.35) in second and sophomore Morgan Dey, who posted a season-best time of 12.48 to take fourth place.

The Warrior women also swept the relay events. Flim, Webster, Dey and Gaita's 4x100m time of 47.85 is No. 5 in program history, while Klag, freshman Tiana Wilkinson, Stitzer and junior Shante Dorin completed the 4x400m in a season-best time of 3:58.55.

In the throws, sophomore Me'Saj Closs placed third in the discus with a PR toss of 132-4 which is No. 3 in ESU history. Sophomore Alexis Schuldes also moved up in the record books, as her PR of 152-3 in the hammer is ranked seventh all-time at ESU.

Sophomore Barbara Grossov took third in the shot put with a season-best toss of 37-10 3/4, while Closs (37-1 1/4) followed in fourth. The Warriors also took third and fourth in the javelin, as freshman Gabrielle D'Amore (133-2) edged out junior Hannah Marth (126-5).

New PSAC qualifiers for the ESU men were sophomore Keondre Morris (43-9 3/4) in the triple jump and freshman Jordan Duncan-Murphy (11.06) in the 100m. Duncan-Murphy placed second out of 44 runners in his event, with junior Pat Monahan besting the field after posting a season-best time of 10.96.

Sophomore Austin Horner topped a field of 42 with his top distance of 22-11 3/4, and he posted a season-best time of 50.80 while taking fourth place in the 400m. Also on the track, freshman Jordan Cruise (8:57.92) and freshman Teddy Mostellar (8:59.67) were second and third in the 3000m, senior Nathan Wojick (1:54.32) and junior Khai Samuels (1:55.57) were second and fourth in the 800m, and senior Dan Buccino (4:09.70) took fourth in the 1500m.

Monahan, Castro, D'Eliseo and sophomore Andrew Schumacher took first place in the 4x100m relay with a time of 42.26. Individually, Schumacher's time of 55.25 in the 400m hurdles earned him a third-place result.

Freshman Dan Amari (3rd – 13-11 1/4) added a top five finish for ESU in the pole vault.

ESU is now only two weeks away from this year's PSAC Outdoor Championships at Slippery Rock. Prior to that, select Warriors will have the opportunity to compete in the annual Penn Relays, which take place in Philadelphia from Thursday through Saturday next week. Others will head to Lehigh for the Lehigh Games on Friday and Saturday.

Note:

There was a special announcement at Saturday's All-American Meet, which as of next year will be known as the Merli Meet in honor of long-time ESU coach Chris Merli. The two-time USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Men's Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year, in the midst of his 21st season at ESU, is currently both the women's head coach and men's assistant for the Warriors. Fellow longtime track & field coach Joe Koch is pictured with Merli shortly after the announcement below:
