EAST STROUDSBURG – Niyah Brown went 3 for 5 with four RBIs in Game 2, helping Pace earn an 11-4 victory to complete a doubleheader sweep over East Stroudsburg University at Zimbar Field on Sunday.
The Setters (21-19) won the opener by a 2-1 final, with starting pitcher Emma Bernet allowing six hits while going the distance in the circle.
Seniors
Heather Visco and
Madison Oren each went 3 for 4 for the Warriors (11-23) in the night cap. Visco added ESU's lone RBI single in the third inning of Game 1. She now has 10 multiple hit games on the year, a total which ranks second on the team.
Junior RHP
Angelica Dark took a tough loss to start the day, giving up five hits and failing to walk a batter in her seven innings of work. Pace went ahead for good in Game 1 on an RBI single by Brown in the fourth inning.
The Warriors best chance to tie the score came in the sixth inning after two-out singles by freshman
Kaitlyn Caleen and junior
Madison Vicendese. They both moved into scoring position on a Bernet wild pitch, but the visiting starter recovered to end the rally with a strikeout.
Vicendese went 2 for 2 with a walk in the opener, while sophomore
Kaylee Hazewski went 2 for 4 with her team-leading 20th stolen base of the season. That steal was the 45th of her Warrior career, moving her into a tie with Denise McKeown (1987-91) for third place in program history.
Six ESU errors and four unearned runs contributed to Pace's offensive outburst in Game 2. The Setters scored at least one run in six of their seven trips to the plate.
Oren had two of the Warriors' four RBIs; Hazewski and senior
Mary Wallick also drove in runs from the top of the lineup. Caleen (2 for 3, BB) reached base in three of her four plate appearances, and freshman
Sofia Cecchin added two hits and two runs scored offensively. Caleen, who ranks second on the team with a .333 batting average, has hits in seven of ESU's last eight contests.
The Warriors have four doubleheaders scheduled for the final week of the regular season, beginning with a 1:30 p.m. twinbill at Mansfield on Tuesday.
