ESU Softball to Host Little League Softball® Day on Saturday, April 28

4/23/2018 12:00:00 AM

EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University and Little League® Baseball and Softball will team up on Saturday afternoon to welcome Little League Softball® players to its "Little League Softball Day."

The event will be held at Zimbar Field for the Warriors' PSAC East doubleheader against Shippensburg, with Game 1 beginning at 1 p.m.

Little Leaguers®, their parents, and local league volunteers are encouraged to attend the games. The players will come dressed in their Little League uniform jerseys, and they will have the opportunity to join the team on the field for the playing of the national anthem. After the game, players will be invited back on the field to interact with the team and receive autographs.

Saturday will also be Senior Day for ESU's three seniors: Madison Oren, Heather Visco and Mary Wallick. They will be recognized between games for their many contributions to the program.

"Little League Softball Days are a way to recognize Little League Softball, and gain an appreciation of the college softball experience," said Stephen D. Keener, President and Chief Executive Officer of Little League Baseball and Softball. "For over 75 years, Little League has played an active role in connecting communities. Little League Softball Days will afford young athletes of all ages the chance to enjoy the game of softball at its finest. They will have the complete game experience from the warm-ups to game's end."

Colleges and universities throughout the United States, including UCLA; the University of Arizona; the University of Tennessee; DePaul University, and the University of Michigan, have hosted similar events in recent years.

Little League Softball has over 360,000 players worldwide and is played in nearly all U.S. states. Each summer, Little League International operates three World Series tournaments for softball, in which world champions in the divisions of Little League (ages 10-12), Junior League (12-14), and Senior League Softball (13-16) are crowned. Each of the championship games in those tournaments are televised on ESPN family of networks.
