PHILADELPHIA – Freshman Dominic Walton was the top Division II finisher in the shot put on Friday afternoon, and he added a 24th place showing in the discus to lead East Stroudsburg University at the 124th annual Penn Relays.

Walton placed ninth out of 49 competitors with a top toss of 53-1, finishing less than three feet back of Penn State's Luke Grodeska (55-8 3/4) in first and beating out a total of 27 Division I throwers. Walton's effort reached the NCAA Division II provisional standard, and it was only a half-foot off his season best which was established at Charlotte in mid-March.

Earlier in the morning, Walton took 24th place in a rain-filled discus competition with a top distance of 143-6. He is ESU's outdoor freshman record holder in both the shot put and the discus.

Senior Ronald D'Eliseo was the other Warrior to compete individually, and he recorded a strong DII provisional time of 53.36 which placed him first in his heat and 20th overall. D'Eliseo had a season best and meet record effort of 53.09 at last weekend's All-American Invitational at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

In the relay events, ESU registered the fourth-quickest times in program history in both the women's 4x200m and men's distance medley relay races. Junior Marissa Flim, sophomore Tiana Webster, sophomore Morgan Dey and junior Aspen Gaita completed the 4x200m in 1:41.89, while senior Nathan Wojick (3:07.24), freshman Omari Slocombe (50.40), junior Khai Samuels (1:52.64) and sophomore Mike Sheptuk (4:25.86) finished the DMR in 10:16.12.

The Warriors, who entered as the defending men's Shuttle Hurdles Championship of America title-holders, placed sixth in the event this time around. Senior Christian Castro, junior Mike Matrisciano, sophomore Austin Horner and sophomore Andrew Schumacher recorded a time of 1:02.06 which is No. 6 all-time in team history.

ESU was also represented in the men's and women's 4x400m competitions, with both teams finishing in 51st place. D'Eliseo, Castro, Matrisciano and Schumacher crossed the line in 3:23.48 for the men, while sophomore Sarah Klag, Gaita, sophomore Allyson Stitzer and junior Shante Dorin posted a time of 3:58.89 for the women.

The remainder of the track & field program is set to compete at the Lehigh Games this weekend, with action on Saturday beginning with throwing events at 10 a.m.
