PHILADELPHIA – Freshman
Dominic Walton was the top Division II finisher in the shot put on Friday afternoon, and he added a 24th place showing in the discus to lead East Stroudsburg University at the 124th annual Penn Relays.
Walton placed ninth out of 49 competitors with a top toss of 53-1, finishing less than three feet back of Penn State's Luke Grodeska (55-8 3/4) in first and beating out a total of 27 Division I throwers. Walton's effort reached the NCAA Division II provisional standard, and it was only a half-foot off his season best which was established at Charlotte in mid-March.
Earlier in the morning, Walton took 24th place in a rain-filled discus competition with a top distance of 143-6. He is ESU's outdoor freshman record holder in both the shot put and the discus.
