STROUDSBURG – Facing off against the top team in the PSAC East standings, East Stroudsburg University was competitive in several matches but ultimately suffered a 9-0 defeat to Bloomsburg at Stroudsburg High School's tennis courts on Sunday.
The Warriors (4-8, 1-2 PSAC) saw a two-match winning streak come to an end, while the Huskies (6-5, 4-0 PSAC) won their fifth consecutive match. Included in that winning run is a 5-4 triumph over defending East champions West Chester last Saturday.
Seniors
Elizabeth Bartoli and
Devin Presby advanced to a tiebreak at No. 2 doubles, but were edged out by Bloomsburg's Giovanna Bonito and Catherine Garrity.
ESU then had two players advance to super tiebreakers in singles, as sophomore
Aubrianna Stetina fell 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-2) to Bonito at No. 3 while freshman
Quinn McCluskey was ousted 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) by Isabella Sarquiz at No. 4.
Sophomore
Marina Zardet added a close showing at the top singles position, as she fell 7-5, 6-4 to Vitoria Nery.
Next up for the Warriors is a key road matchup at Millersville on Tuesday. The Marauders have split their first two conference matches this spring, leaving them a half-game ahead of ESU for the third and final PSAC East playoff spot. Tuesday's dual is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
