MEADVILLE, Pa. – East Stroudsburg University sophomore
Darnell Randall surpassed the NCAA Division II provisional standard in the long jump, leading a group of seven Warriors who competed at Allegheny College's Gator Invite on Friday.
Randall, the 2018 PSAC Outdoor Champion in the event, registered a top distance of 23-11 3/4 to take first place overall at the last-chance meet. That was ahead of the DII standard of 23-9, and it was over three inches further than his previous PR of 23-8 which was established earlier in the spring. Randall now ranks 31st nationally in the long jump. He also placed fourth in the high jump on Friday with a top clearance of 6-5.
Seniors
Christian Castro,
Ronald D'Eliseo,
Nathan Wojick and
Zack Krieger closed out their collegiate careers with strong performances in their respective events. Castro competed in the 100m dash for the first time this spring, recording what would have been a PSAC-qualifying time of 11.01 to finish in fourth place.
The Vineland, N.J., native was a six-time conference scorer in his final year at ESU, winning PSAC titles in the 60m hurdles indoors and the 4x100m outdoors. He is ranked 36th nationally outdoors with a top time of 14.43 in the 110m hurdles.
D'Eliseo, the PSAC runner-up in the 400m hurdles, won the event by nearly a second on Friday after crossing the line in 53.11. That mark is just off his season-best of 52.92 which ranks 30th in DII. D'Eliseo returned to form this season after missing most of the last two years due to injury. He was a 13-time PSAC scorer at ESU, running on title-winning 4x100m relay teams in both 2015 and 2018.
Wojick took second in a field of 17 runners in the 800m after registering a time of 1:53.68. He set a new ESU record in the event last weekend, finishing third at PSAC's with a mark of 1:51.73 that is 39th overall in DII this season.
Krieger and sophomore
Mike Sheptuk ran in the 1500m. Krieger posted a PR of 4:01.88, the fastest time recorded by an ESU runner in the event this spring, to place 12th out of 31 runners. Sheptuk completed the race in 4:08.07.
Freshman
Dominic Walton also competed on Friday as the lone participant in the shot put at Georgian Court's Last Chance Meet. Walton closed out his season in style, bettering his own ESU freshman record in the event with a top toss of 55-2 1/4. That distance is ranked No. 2 all-time in program history, and it is 29th overall in Division II this season.
