SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – East Stroudsburg University senior Abigail Kaspszyk was recognized Saturday morning as the PSAC's "Champion Scholar" for women's outdoor track & field.

The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest grade-point average at the PSAC championship site. Kaspszyk holds a perfect 4.0 GPA through her first 108 credits at ESU while majoring in psychology.

A four-year member of the track & field program, Kaspszyk booked her spot at the Outdoor Championships with a PSAC-qualifying time of 12:29.86 in the 3000m steeplechase at this year's All-American Invitational. She returns to the conference meet for a second time in her collegiate career, as she previously qualified in the steeplechase as a freshman in 2015.

Kaspszyk was also a three-year member of the cross country program at ESU. She took 19th place in Friday night's steeplechase final after crossing the line in 13:00.43.

This is the fourth-straight year that a Warrior track & field competitor has received the honor at the Outdoor Championships. Jeremy Rigotti was honored last spring, Danielle Swingle received the award in 2016 and Alex Zubko had the top men's GPA at the 2015 conference meet.

Kaspszyk is the third ESU student-athlete recognized this academic year, as senior Sydney McCarthy (field hockey) and sophomore Nicole Abbott (women's soccer) were honored in the fall. Kaspszyk becomes ESU's 12th PSAC Champion Scholar since the program was instituted in 2011-12.
