EAST STROUDSBURG – One goal or less had separated East Stroudsburg University and West Chester in each of the previous 13 meetings between the two teams heading into Thursday's PSAC matchup at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Make it 14.

Senior Alex Pickett set up junior Monica Wood for ESU's lone goal in the 59th minute to secure a 1-1 draw in the season opener for both teams. The Warriors, who knocked off the Golden Rams 1-0 to secure their fourth-straight PSAC championship last November, are now 4-6-4 vs. WCU over the past eight seasons.

Nikki Caffey opened up the scoring for the visitors in the 49th minute, taking a pass from Linzi Wolfe and sending a low shot past sophomore Megan Young from the center of the box. Young, though, totaled five saves to help earn a tie in the first start of her collegiate career.

Wood's goal was tucked into the lower left hand corner past WCU's McKenna Mullin in goal. She registered her eighth goal at ESU after leading the team with 18 points (7 G, 4 A) in her debut season last fall.

West Chester held a 13-8 edge in shots through the opening 90 minutes. ESU controlled play in the first overtime session, recording all five shots while pushing for a game-winner. The Golden Rams had the only shot in double overtime, an effort from Wolfe which was sent high with 27 seconds remaining.

Wood ended the contest with a team-high four shots, while Pickett and junior Jessica Woodbyrne added three.

West Chester (No. 1) and ESU (No. 2) were each picked atop the PSAC standings in the preseason coaches' poll released earlier this month. The teams have met six times in the postseason over the last four years, with the Warriors advancing in four of those contests.

The Warriors remain at Eiler-Martin Stadium for their next game, as they host Mercyhurst in a PSAC tilt at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
