STROUDSBURG – Senior
Caterina Daniels recorded the first known hole-in-one in program history, leading East Stroudsburg University to a one-stroke victory over Jefferson at Sunday's ESU Invitational at Glen Brook Golf Club.
Daniels' hole-in-one came late in her round on the par-3 16th. The Warriors ultimately finished with a score of 351, just ahead of Jefferson (352) and Alvernia (358) in the team standings. ESU picked up its first tournament title since topping six other teams at the Eastern Invitational on Oct. 20, 2015.
Sophomore
Micaela Crines had the top overall showing for the Warriors, ranking second out of 31 golfers in the individual standings after carding an 82 on the par-72 course. She was only one stroke back of Jefferson's Kinley Lingenfelter (81) in first.
Daniels (t-5th, 86) and junior
Amy Bergquist (t-10th, 90) also cracked the top 10, while freshman
Tatum Henry shot a 93 to finish tied for 16th.
Crines shot 12 strokes better than her effort at last weekend's Michael Corbett Fall Classic at Gannon. Daniels improved by 10 strokes, while Bergquist improved by 16.
ESU is off next weekend before returning to action at Kutztown's Fall Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 30 and Monday, Oct. 1.
