FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – East Stroudsburg University wrapped up its annual Winter Break training trip in Fort Lauderdale with a unique competition at the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
The Warriors and four other schools took part in the Bahia Cabana Memorial Meet at an outdoor pool located just outside of the Hall of Fame facility and only steps away from the Atlantic Ocean. ESU was joined by Bloomsburg, Clarion, Dickinson and SUNY Oneonta.
The meet consisted of 50-meter swims in the butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Senior
Briana Hall recorded three top-10 finishes for the Warriors, while sophomore
Taylor Howery and freshman
Sarah Luigard each cracked the top 10 in two events.
Hall had the top ESU showing on the day in the 50 free, taking second place out of 88 swimmers with a PSAC-qualifying time of 25.41. She was also third in the 50 fly (27.19) and tied for fifth in the 50 back (29.88).
Howery placed third out of 87 swimmers in the 50 back after touching the wall in 29.44. She began the meet with a ninth-place finish in the 50 fly (28.43), and she was 17th in the 50 free (27.31) to conclude the competition. Luigard registered top-10 efforts in the 50 breast (7th, 34.40) and 50 fly (8th, 28.37).
Junior
Olivia Lukshides was right behind Hall with a fourth-place PSAC-qualifying mark of 25.59 in the 50 free, and she added top 20 finishes in the 50 back (11th, 30.69) and 50 fly (17th, 29.30).
Other top 20 showings included freshman
Emma Billings in both the 50 fly (16th, 29.21) and 50 back (18th, 32.03), sophomore
Julia Harnish in the 50 breast (10th, 34.56) and sophomore
Samantha Christman in the 50 back (12th, 30.91).
The Warriors return to Koehler Fieldhouse for the first of three-straight home meets on Saturday, hosting Millersville in a dual scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
