KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Junior
Darnell Randall reached the Division II provisional standard in the long jump, providing one of 10 event victories for East Stroudsburg University at Kutztown's Golden Bear Invitational on Friday.
Randall, the defending PSAC outdoor champion in the long jump, posted a career-best indoor distance of 23-8 1/4 to beat out a field of nine competitors. He was one of two ESU jumpers to enter the program record book in the event this afternoon, as he is now ranked No. 2 in program history indoors while freshman
Justin Miller's new PSAC-qualifying mark of 23-2 is No. 7 all-time.
The Warriors had a total of 27 PSAC marks at the meet, nine of which were new qualifiers.
Four ESU sprinters advanced to the final in the men's 55m hurdles. Freshman
Jalen Bailey took first place with a time of 7.89, and he was followed by senior
Mike Matrisciano (3rd, 8.19), freshman
Daniel Daley (4th, 8.27) and freshman
Naseem Guillaume (6th, 8.46). Guillaume's time was a new PSAC-qualifier.
A Warrior also topped the field in the women's 55m hurdles, with senior
Aspen Gaita crossing the line in 8.21. Freshman
Misha Duverger followed with a new PSAC time of 8.85 in third place, while freshman
Jeanette Jones (8.87) was close behind in fifth.
ESU had similar success in the 55m dash events. Senior
Marissa Flim (2nd, 7.30), junior
Tiana Webster (4th, 7.43) and junior
Morgan Dey (5th, 7.53) cracked the top five on the women's side, and senior
Pat Monahan (2nd, 6.56), freshman
Brendan Shaffer (3rd, 6.64) and freshman
Brendan Barton (5th, 6.72) represented the Warrior men in the final.
Barton's time in the final was a new PSAC qualifier; Shaffer had booked his spot at the conference meet with a mark of 6.62 in the preliminaries.
ESU men accounted for the remaining four new conference qualifiers. Two of those came in the triple jump, as freshman
Justin Miller (44-2 3/4) and junior
Jamal Cooley (44-1 1/4) claimed the top two spots in the event.
Junior
Noah Lockwood booked his spot at PSAC's with a top toss of 46-1 1/2 in the shot put. That placed him third overall on Friday, one back of sophomore teammate
Dominic Walton (52-3 1/4) in second. Walton reached the DII provisional standard in the event last month with a throw of 54-4.
Freshman
Sean Roberts rounded out the new qualifiers with a second-place time of 52.00 in the 400m.
Junior
Me'Saj Closs beat out eight other throwers in the women's shot put with a top effort of 35-10, and she was one of three Warriors to earn a top-five finish in the weight throw. Closs (49-4 1/2) placed second, junior
Sam Giangrasso (47-5 1/4) was third and junior
Alexis Schuldes (43-3 1/4) was fifth. All three weight throws were above the PSAC standard.
Freshman
Thressia Nixon added a season-best PSAC-distance of 34-7 in the triple jump, and freshman
Juliana Schraer's season-best clearance of 9-10 in the pole vault ranks No. 8 all-time at ESU. Junior
Sarah Klag (2:28.34) had the final event win for the ESU women in the 800m.
Other first place finishes for the Warrior men included senior
Khai Samuels (2:38.84) in the 1000m, freshman
Ben Reisenweaver (2:02.19) in the 800m and Barton (23.64) in the 200m.
Sophomore
Dan Amari matched his season-best PSAC-qualifying clearance of 13-5 1/4 in the men's pole vault. Gaita (5-1) and senior
Carly Gregas (5-1) were at the PSAC standard in the women's high jump while placing third and fourth, respectively.
ESU track & field returns to action next Saturday, when the Warriors travel to Bucknell to take part in the Gulden Invitational.
