ESU Women’s Volleyball Finishes Season with 3-0 Sweep against Bloomsburg; Warriors Host Seton Hill Tuesday

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Senior Sam Dunphy recorded 18 kills, 14 digs, and seven blocks as the East Stroudsburg University women's volleyball team finished the 2019 regular season with a 3-0 sweep against Bloomsburg on Saturday at Nelson Field House.
 
ESU (26-6, 16-3 PSAC) officially earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming 2019 PSAC Volleyball Championship that will begin on Tuesday with four quarterfinal matches. The Warriors, who qualified for the conference tournament for a second consecutive season, will host sixth-seeded Seton Hill at 7 p.m. inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
 
ESU hit .318 as a team against the Huskies and notched 18 kills in the opening set. Dunphy finished with a .452 hitting percentage, while sophomore Jasmine Mooney tallied nine kills in the match for ESU. Freshman Rachel Cain finished with 27 assists, while sophomore Emily Meredith added 21 digs and eight assists for the Warriors.
 
Bloomsburg knotted the opening set 3-3 before the Warriors used a 6-0 run to take a 9-3 lead against the Huskies. Dunphy tallied four kills during the run for ESU and gave the Warriors a 10-4 advantage following a service error.
 
A 4-0 run stretched the Warriors' lead to 19-10 in the set before a 6-0 rally secured the 25-11 victory in the set for ESU. The rally was highlighted by three consecutive kills from Mooney along with a kill from senior Jasmine Williams that ended the set.
 
The Warriors had to rally from an early deficit in the second set as back-to-back kills from Dunphy helped give ESU a 10-8 lead. ESU would later increase the lead to 17-12 off a kill from senior Sarah Smith. Leading 23-17, the Warriors would get a kill from freshman Jessica Irwin along with a block from Smith and redshirt junior Trea-sure Ketter to secure the 25-17 victory for ESU.
 
ESU would open the third set with a commanding 6-0 run before Bloomsburg rallied to trim the deficit to 7-4. A 4-0 rally made it 11-4 in favor of ESU before 3-0 run later in the set increased the Warriors' advantage to 17-9. Leading 20-14, the Warriors closed the set on a 5-0 run to secure the sweep and the 25-14 victory against the Huskies.
 
The winner of Tuesday's quarterfinal matchup between ESU and Seton Hill will face the winner of Shippensburg and Clarion on Friday at the site of the highest remaining seed in the tournament. The 2019 PSAC Volleyball Championship matchup will be held on Saturday, November 23.
