EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University women's field hockey team is headed the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Semifinals for the fourth time in the last five seasons as the Warriors recorded a 1-0 victory against Assumption College on Saturday at Whitenight Field.

ESU (19-2) has appeared in the semifinals of the NCAA DII Field Hockey Championship each of the last three seasons. The Warriors matched their most wins in a single-season on Saturday and will look to establish a program record when they face Saint Anselm next Friday in Millersville.

Sophomore Celeste Veenstra scored the eventual game-winning goal for the Warriors in the third quarter off a penalty corner that was taken by senior Karly Conway. Veenstra took a shot from the top of the circle and would beat Assumption goalkeeper Kylie Gargiulo inside the right corner of the goal to make it 1-0.

The goal was Veenstra's 22nd of the season, which ties her for third-most for a single-season in program history. Conway tallied her team-leading ninth assist of the season for the Warriors.

ESU held a 14-7 advantage in shots in the contest against the Greyhounds, including a 9-4 margin in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Maddie Richie made four saves in net for the Warriors, including three in the fourth quarter. Gargiulo finished the contest with eight saves in net for Assumption.

Veenstra, Conway, senior Emily Spangler, and junior Jada Martin each finished with two shots on goal for ESU. Richie made three of her four saves in the contest in the fourth quarter as Jenna Graf looked to knot the score at the 55:56 mark. The Greyhounds followed with shots at the 59:09 and 59:54 mark as Richie would stand tall on both opportunities to keep the Warriors in front, 1-0.

ESU will face Saint Anselm on Friday, November 22 in the semifinals of the 2019 NCAA DII Field Hockey Championship at Biemesderder Stadium in Millersville, Pennsylvania. The other semifinal matchup will feature Kutztown and West Chester. Kutztown advanced to the next round after defeating Southern New Hampshire in penalty strokes on Saturday. Times for both semifinal matches will be announced later. The championship is scheduled to be played on Sunday, November 24 at 1 p.m. from Biemesderder Stadium.
