No. 15 Millersville Tops No. 23 ESU in Overtime, 2-1

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Amanda McElhare scored midway through the second overtime period to lift No. 15 Millersville to a 2-1 victory over No. 23 East Stroudsburg in a battle of ranked teams on Wednesday night at Pucillo Field.

The loss dropped ESU to 12-5 overall and 11-4 in PSAC East action, while Millersville improved to 14-2-1 on the year and 12-2-1 in conference. ESU remains in third place in the PSAC East standings, one point ahead of fourth-place West Chester, with one game remaining in the regular season.

The Warriors held a 7-2 advantage on shots in the opening half of play, including a 4-1 margin in shots on target, but MU goalie Reagan Kolinski stopped all four attempts by the Warriors to keep the game knotted at 0-0 through one half of play.

The Warriors were able to find the back of the net in the 51st minute on Corryn Gamber's sixth goal of the season. Jessica Woodbyrne played a beautiful ball from around 35 yards out into the middle of the box near the penalty marker, where Gamber ran onto it and sent a one-time volley into the lower right corner to make it 1-0 ESU.

The Warriors held that 1-0 advantage until the 82nd minute when Millersville netted the equalizer. Off a corner kick, McElhare fired a low cross that squeaked towards the far side of the six-yard box. Michelle Belcher was there to slot a lefty shot just inside the near post for the score, which knotted things up at 1-1 with 8:04 remaining in regulation.

ESU applied lots of pressure in the final minutes to make a run for the go-ahead goal, but Millersville was able to keep the Warriors off the board and send the game into overtime. ESU held a 14-9 shot advantage over MU at the end of regulation.

Just over four minutes into the second overtime period, the Marauders capitalized on McElhare's fourth goal of the season. Cassie Blyth played a ball into the box to McElhare, who settled it before firing a shot into the upper right corner for the game-winning tally.

ESU outshot MU by a 17-11 margin in the contest, including 8-5 in on-target attempts.

Goalie Mauri Jackson made three saves in net for ESU, and Kolinski stopped seven shots to earn the win in goal for MU.

The Warriors return home to face Shepherd on Senior Day this Saturday (Nov. 9), with action beginning at 1:30 p.m. from Eiler-Martin Stadium.
