LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
Casey Ellis raced to a ninth-place individual finish at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships on Saturday to lead the East Stroudsburg University men's cross country team to a sixth-place finish in the team standings.
Ellis crossed the line in 32:07.6 to place ninth and earn All-Region honors. Ellis' finish was the best by a Warrior at Regionals since Frank Fezza's runner-up finish at the 2012 Championships.
ESU combined for a team time of 2:44.50 in the 10k and recorded 188 team points. Charleston (W.V.) won the championship with 66 team points and a time of 2:40.16, beating out Edinboro, who finished with 87 points and a time of 2:41.59. Jack Mastandrea of Charleston won the individual title with a time of 31:06.6
Jeremy Smith and
Nathan Senatore were ESU's next top finishers at the event. Smith posted a time of 32:44.8 to take 29
th place, and Senatore clocked in at 32:52.3 for a 36
th-place showing.
Andy Lopez (33:22.3),
Ben Reisenweaver (33:42.8),
Teddy Mostellar (34:14.2) and
Dylan Senatore (34:17.1) rounded out the performances for the Warriors on the day.
The top-three finishing teams at the Championships, Charleston, Edinboro and Davis & Elkins, will head to the NCAA DII Championships on November 23 in Sacramento.
