Jasmine Williams were honored on Saturday prior to the start of East Stroudsburg University's PSAC matchup against West Chester at Koehler Fieldhouse. The Warriors prevailed against the Golden Rams 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-19).
ESU (23-6, 13-3 PSAC) improved to 13-2 this season at Koehler Fieldhouse following its sweep against the Golden Rams. The Warriors hit .652 in the second set against West Chester, recording 16 kills on 23 attempts.
The Warriors were paced by Smith's 16 kills and 15 digs in the match. Dunphy added seven kills and 11 digs, while Williams tallied six kills. Ketter tallied a match-high eight blocks to go along with four kills.
The lead would change hands five times in the first set and was knotted ten times. ESU opened a 14-10 advantage following a 3-0 run that was highlighted by a block from Ketter and Dunphy. West Chester countered with a 6-0 run out of a timeout to take a 16-14 advantage and later used a 3-0 rally to increase its advantage to 22-19.
ESU called a timeout to try and slow the momentum by the Golden Rams and received a kill from Williams to make it 22-20. The Golden Rams would go up 23-20 before ESU closed the set with a 5-0 run to secure the 25-23 victory. The Warriors would get an ace from freshman
Erin Lutz and a block from Ketter and freshman
Rachel Cain.
The Warriors controlled the tempo from start to finish in the second set as a 3-0 run gave ESU a 10-6 advantage. ESU would go on a 4-1 run and take a 16-9 lead against the Golden Rams as sophomore
Caylinn Davis delivered one of her eight kills in the match.
A pair of kills from Dunphy stretched the Warriors' lead to 21-11 before Davis added another kill to force West Chester to use its second timeout of the set. A pair of kills from Williams and one from Smith secured the 25-12 victory for the Warriors.
ESU tallied the opening two points of the third set and wouldn't look back as the Warriors eventually gained an 8-4 advantage. Consecutive kills from Smith increased ESU's advantage to 13-7 and forced West Chester to call a timeout. The Warriors later used a pair of 3-0 rallies to increase the lead to 20-14 in the set following a pair of attacking errors by the Golden Rams.
West Chester trimmed the deficit to 23-19 in the set before Williams delivered a kill to make it 24-19. A block from Smith and Ketter secured the 25-19 victory in the set and the 3-0 sweep for the Warriors on senior day.
ESU closes the regular-season with three matches on the road as the Warriors travel to Kutztown on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. matchup. The Warriors close with matches on Friday and Saturday against Lock Haven and Bloomsburg.
