MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – For the second consecutive week, the East Stroudsburg University women's track and field program tallied a first-place finish. The Warriors recorded the top score at the 37th annual Millersville Metrics, which was held on Saturday at Biemesderfer Stadium.
The Warriors topped Millersville in the team standings while recording three first-place finishes. Three Warriors added their names to the PSAC qualifiers, while junior
Me'Saj Closs set the school record in the hammer with a mark of 166-9.
Closs placed second in the hammer with her personal-best throw and improved her PSAC qualifying mark, which is currently second-best behind Millersville's Sunflower Greene. The previous record at ESU was held by Jenelle Strine, who notched a mark of 165-3 in 1999. Closs also placed fourth with a season-best mark of 42-4 1/4 in the shot put.
Junior
Tiana Webster and senior
Marissa Flim finished first and second for the Warriors in the 100-meter race. Webster recorded a time of 12.47, while Flim crossed the line at the 12.57 mark.
In the 10,000-meter race, junior
Jenna Vledder delivered a new PSAC qualifying mark for herself with a time of 38:49.75. Her personal-best run in the event was also the fastest this season for the Warriors. Sophomore
Mandy Fine finished fourth for ESU with a personal-best time of 41:17.88.
Senior
Aspen Gaita recorded a first-place finish for ESU with a time of 14.96 in the 100-meter hurdles. She finished ahead of freshman
Jeanette Jones (4th – 15.98) and senior
Briana Hall (5th – 16.19). Hall's time in the event was a personal-best during her career at ESU.
Junior
Rachael Davalos notched a personal-best time of 19:05.48 and finished third in the 5,000-meter race for the Warriors, while junior
Sarah Klag placed fourth in the 400-meter race with a time of 59.21.
ESU placed four runners in the top six of the 400-meter hurdles as Webster added her name to the PSAC qualifiers list with a time of 1:06.70. She finished third and was one of three ESU runners to set personal benchmarks in the event. Gaita placed fifth (1:07.20) with her best run, while Jones' best run (1:07.78) placed sixth. Junior
Allyson Stitzer paced ESU in the event, finishing second with a time of 1:06.24.
The Warriors finished second in the 4x100 meter relay with a season-best time of 47.93 and placed third in the 4x400 meter relay with another season-best time of 4:06.86.
In field events, the Warriors had three top-five finishers in the javelin as sophomore
Madison Ware added her name to the PSAC qualifying list with a third-place finish and personal-best mark of 125-5. Sophomore
Gabrielle D'Amore finished second (128-10) for ESU, while senior
Hannah Marth placed fifth (122-6).
Senior
Carly Gregas placed third for the Warriors in the high jump with a mark of 5-2 1/4, while freshman
Juliana Schraer finished third in the pole vault with a mark of 9-10.
The Warriors will split their time next weekend between three events across Pennsylvania, with stops in Kutztown (Thurs.-Fri.), Moravian (Fri.-Sat.), and Bucknell (Sat.).
