BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team snapped a five-match losing skid against Bloomsburg on Wednesday night as senior
Monica Wood tallied the game-winning goal in the 107th minute to defeat the Huskies 1-0 in double-overtime.
ESU (2-0, 1-0 PSAC East) recorded its first win against the Huskies, who entered the contest ranked fifth nationally, since 2015. The Warriors were outshot 23-11 but matched Bloomsburg with seven shots on goal in the contest.
Wood took a long pass up the right-wing from sophomore
Corryn Gamber and crossed up a Bloomsburg defender before beating the goalkeeper low and finding the back of the net to secure the 1-0 victory for the Warriors.
ESU and Bloomsburg have played four overtime matches since 2013 but this was the first one to go to double-overtime since 2007 as the two sides tied 1-1.
Warriors' sophomore goalkeeper
Mauri Jackson made some big stops in the first half as she recorded three saves to keep the contest scoreless. She would make three more stops in the second half and one in the first overtime for ESU.
Despite registering just one shot on goal in the first half, the Warriors turned up the offensive pressure in the second half, tallying five shots on goal. Bloomsburg goalkeeper Jenna Hawkins would be up to the task however, stopping all six shots that she faced in regulation.
Gamber finished with a match-high three shots on goal for ESU, while Wood added a pair of shots on frame. Senior

Jules Sicker each tallied a shot on goal for the Warriors.
Jackson (2-0) stopped all seven shots that she faced in net for the Warriors and recorded her second consecutive shutout to open the 2019 campaign. Hawkins (2-1) suffered her first loss of the season in net for the Huskies, stopping six shots on seven attempts.
ESU travels to Kutztown on September 14 for another PSAC East matchup before hosting West Chester for their home opener on September 17 at 3 p.m.
