EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University freshman forward Melissa Herrera was announced as the PSAC East Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week, while sophomore goalkeeper Mauri Jackson was selected as the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week in a release by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Herrera (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) recorded her first collegiate goal for the Warriors on Saturday night as ESU defeated nationally-ranked Kutztown, 3-0. Herrera accounted for all three goals and tallied her first hat-trick in the process.

Herrera tallied three-times in the second half of Saturday's contest against the Golden Bears. She opened the scoring in the 67th minute and followed with tallies in the 74th and 79th minute. Herrera leads ESU with four goals this season and eight points overall.

Jackson (Mount Royal, N.J./Kingsway Regional) recorded a pair of shutouts on the week against two nationally-ranked programs in No. 5 Bloomsburg and No. 24 Kutztown. She made seven saves as ESU defeated the Huskies 1-0 in double-overtime on Wednesday and followed with five saves in the 3-0 victory against the Golden Bears on Saturday.

Jackson is 3-0 on the season and has yet to allow a goal through 286 minutes played for the Warriors. She has stopped a total of 13 shots on the season and has 12 career shutouts for ESU.

Herrera is the first Warrior forward to earn Athlete of the Week recognition since Alex Pickett won the award twice during the 2016 season. Jackson becomes the first ESU goalkeeper to earn recognition since Brittain Wagner in 2013.

ESU (3-0) hosts West Chester on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in its 2019 home opener as the Warriors will look to stay undefeated in PSAC East action. The Warriors travel to Mansfield on Saturday for a PSAC East match against Mansfield before returning home to host Bloomsburg on Sept. 25 at 4:30 p.m.
