ESU Softball Dominates Game Two as Warriors Earn Doubleheader Split at Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The East Stroudsburg University softball team scored a season-high eight runs and Mikayla Pourby threw a two-hit shutout in game two of a doubleheader at Barry, as the Warriors earned a split with the Buccaneers on Monday to close out their Florida trip.

The Warriors, who fell 5-4 in the opening game before posting an 8-0 victory in five innings in game two, round out their trip with a 2-6 overall record, while the Buccaneers move to 7-5 on the year. ESU and Barry split each of its two-game series against each other during the Warriors' visit.

GAME 1: Barry 5, ESU 4 | Box Score

Lexi Wright tallied a multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, while Marissa Govan, Kaitlyn Caleen and Katherine Donaghue picked up the RBIs for the Warriors.

Mickayla Grow earned the start in the circle, throwing four innings and striking out a pair. Pourby tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Grow.

ESU jumped out to a 2-0 advantage with a pair of two-out runs in the top of the third inning. Donaghue knocked in the first run on a single through the right side to score Govan, and Caleen followed with a run on a fielding error to double up the lead.

Barry came right back in the bottom half of the frame with three runs to take its first advantage of the game. Payton Germer notched a two-run single up the middle to tie the contest, and an error later in the inning pushed across the go-ahead run.

The Warriors showed their fight and re-took the advantage in the next inning with two more runs coming with two outs, as Govan and Caleen registered back-to-back run-scoring knocks to give the Warriors a 4-3 lead.

The Buccaneers tallied another unearned run in the bottom of the fourth, as Karla Santiago crossed home on a fielding error to tie things at 4-4. They jumped on top by a 5-4 margin in the next frame on a double steal, with Germer crossing home for the go-ahead run.

ESU was held scoreless in the final two innings as Barry pulled out the tight 5-4 victory.

GAME 2: ESU 8, Barry 0 (5 inn.) | Box Score

The Warrior offense was led by Ashley Spencer, Rachel Seiverd and Donaghue, who each posted 2-for-3 days with a run scored. Spencer drove in three runs, while Seiverd and Donaghue collected an RBI apiece. Kaylee Hazewski added a 1-for-2 day with two runs scored.

The Warriors had some clutch hitting once again in the second game, scoring five runs in the opening frame all with two outs.
