No. 12 ESU Suffers First Defeat of Season Against No. 5 Lindenwood

SPARKS, Md. – The 12th-ranked East Stroudsburg University women's lacrosse team suffered its first defeat of the season on Tuesday, falling by a 10-8 margin to fifth-ranked Lindenwood in a neutral site matchup at the US Lacrosse Headquarters in Maryland.

Hana Cicerelle, who became the seventh player in program history to reach 200 career points in the team's win over Millersville on Saturday, notched three points (2g, 1a) in this contest and moved into sole possession of third place on ESU's all-time assist list with 74 in her career.

Kayleigh Pokrivka registered six caused turnovers and tied her career-high with eight ground balls to lead ESU's defensive unit, while Kristen Andreychak added three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. Tatyana Petteway made eight saves between the pipes for the Warriors.

Gianna LeDuc scored a team-high three goals for ESU, while Shannon Dent (2g) and Kiki Fitzpatrick (1g, 1a) also recorded multi-point games.

Lindenwood was led by a game-high seven points (5g, 2a) from Carly Fedorowsky, and Hannah Doughty and Lexy Biller chipped in two goals apiece. Eleanor Kast earned the win in goal with a 10-save performance.

Lindenwood (8-1) held a slight edge over ESU (4-1) in shots, 24-23, and posted a big advantage on draws, 14-5.

Dent gave ESU an early advantage with a goal less than a minute into play off a feed from Fitzpatrick. After Fedorowski's first of the contest tied things up, Cicerelle netted her first of the tilt to put ESU on top once again, 2-1, at the 23:41 mark.

The Warriors were held scoreless for the rest of the half as Lindenwood registered the final five goals of the frame, including three more from Fedorowski, to take a 6-2 lead into the break.

The Lions outshot ESU by a 15-11 margin in the opening half and held a 6-3 advantage on draw controls.

Hannah Doughty netted the opening goal of the second half to stretch the Lindenwood lead to five before ESU ended its scoring drought with three consecutive tallies from Dent, Cicerelle and LeDuc, which brought the Warriors back within two scores, 7-5, at the 14:46 mark.

Lindenwood responded by scoring three of the next four goals, including Fedorowski's fifth of the contest, to stretch its advantage to 10-6 with less than eight minutes remaining in the tilt.

ESU showed its fight and was able to pull back within a pair as LeDuc netted back-to-back scores to round out her hat trick and make it a 10-8 game with 1:32 showing on the clock, but Lindenwood ultimately held on for the two-goal victory to hand the Warriors their first loss of the season.

The Warriors continue play with a tilt at home against No. 4 Adelphi this Saturday, March 14 at 1 p.m.
